No reasonable person would ever classify what my friends and I attempted in the parking lot behind our middle school as “parkour.” And yet, when my brother introduced me to the British parkour group Storror during the pandemic, I recognized something in the spirit of boundless brotherhood these guys were taking to extremely literal heights. Still, I was pleasantly surprised when Ethan Warren accepted my pitch for the latest volume of his Broad Sound journal — despite the titular breadth of topics the magazine covers, a long-form essay about YouTubers and daredevils and my middle school parking lot felt niche as could be.
Not too niche for Ethan, as it turns out. And now, not too niche for Michael Bay, whose documentary on Storror releases later this year. But until then, you can now read my full piece — on the history of parkour, and friendship, and Alex Honnold, and Neil Armstrong, and Jackass — below:
And if you want to support a lot of other great writers on a lot of other great niche subjects, you can still purchase print copies of Broad Sound Volumes 1 & 2:
